'Stop work' rally
Thursday, 19 September

Dear Parents/Carers,

RE: 'STOP WORK' RALLY- THURSDAY, 19 SEPTEMBER

The State School Teachers' Union of Western Australia, United Voice- representing Education Assistants, cleaners and gardeners, and the Community & Public Sector Union Civil Service Association of WA- representing school registrars, school officers and library officers has directed its members to attend a 'Stop Work' rally from 9.30am-11.00am on Thursday, 19 September. It is understood that this action is being taken in response to changes to staffing and resource allocations for schools in 2014.

I have surveyed staff and wish to inform you that an overwhelming majority will be attending the 'Stop Work' rally, and as such, there will be significant disruption to normal school operations, including Breakfast Club, which will be suspended for the day. In response, I would encourage parents/carers to make alternative arrangements for the morning as there will be insufficient staff on school site to maintain the integrity of the classroom programme. However, arrangements have been put in place to ensure that any children who come to the school for the morning session will be supervised.

It is anticipated that all staff attending the meeting will be back on school site by 11.40am and that normal school operations will commence from this time forward.

In respects to Year 1-7 school photos, which are planned to take place on Wednesday and Thursday of this week, I can confirm that I have made contact with Aussie School Photos and we have postponed school photos until the beginning of next term. As a consequence of this decision, I would encourage all parents/carers to store the school photo packages that were sent home late last week in a safe place. Parents/carers will be informed of the new dates once they have been confirmed with Aussie School Photos.

The Department of Education does not endorse nor support staff taking industrial action in any way. The Department regrets any inconvenience that may be caused by the unions taking industrial action.

If you have any questions about arrangements on Thursday, please do not hesitate to contact the school office on 9473 4100.

Yours sincerely,

Paul Andrijich

Principal
Maylands Peninsula Primary School
